Pedal to the Beat

“Pedal to the Beat” NGHS C2C Pedal to the Beat

October 2014

On the 20th October 2014 a team of students and teachers from Nottingham Girls High School began the challenge of Coat to Coast for the charity Beat. They cycled 140 miles from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in three days, including an ascending total of 3594m (some significant hill climbs!).

Archer Electrical invited all staff and customers to sponsor the team and would like to say a very big thanks to all that sponsored and well done to all those who took part! Raising over £3500 in total the team massively succeeded their original fundraising target of £500, earning a significant amount of money for Beat. This money will be an incredible help to services such as the helpline, online services and support groups across the UK. Not only have we helped raised these funds, but also raising awareness, spreading the work that Eating Disorders can be beaten.

This event is was a great chance to raise as much money as possible for Beat who are the UK’s only nationwide organisation supporting people affected by eating disorders, their family members and friends, and campaigning on their behalf. They are also the world’s largest eating disorders charity.

Unfortunately eating disorders can affect many of our friends and the activities of Beat are designed to increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of eating disorders; to provide support, help and information to people directly affected; and to increase the understanding and skills of professional staff. There are telephone helplines; local support groups; and their website, which includes information, message boards and online chat. Last year they had direct contact with 250,000 individuals and many thousands more through the website and the media.

“We can’t thank the team from Nottingham Girls High School enough for all their hard work! It’s thanks to our supporters like the team that we are able to continue with our essential services, helping those who need it most. Raising over £3500 will be an incredible help to services such as the helpline, online services and our support groups across the UK. Not only have they helped raised these funds, but also raising awareness, spreading the word that Eating Disorders Can be beaten. Thank you for choosing to support Beat.”
